When it comes to car safety, it has gone a long way, from way back in the nineteenth century to the high technology models of the present times.

Driving a car is an exhilarating feeling. But, you cannot deny the fact that it is also a dangerous thing to do. Fortunately, motorists are being more and more aware of the road safety and traffic guidelines.

Statistics show that injuries, fatalities, and road accidents decrease as years go by. Thanks to some of the car innovations and features that greatly impact the way people significantly drive today.

Electricity Stability Program (ESP)

In terms of car safety technology, ESP is one of the most contemporary features in automobiles. Bosch created it and has then become a common thing in almost all vehicles.

ESP helps prevent a car from skidding out of control. The steering of the driver works with the actual trajectory of the car because of the sensors that are installed in the car strategically. ESP steers the wheels on the right track. Thanks to this safety feature, about 80% of road accidents are prevented.

Anti-lock Braking System

ABS was initially designed for aircraft purposes. In the 1970s, Chrysler introduced the anti-lock braking system in the automotive industry. This innovation helps the car to avoid skidding, hence prevent accidents. The wheels also do not lock up during braking. A study discovered that about 40% car accidents can be prevented if the vehicle has an ABS technology.

Airbag

In the 1950s, airbags were designed as an alternative to seat belts. but, the results were not what they expected.

Seatbelts and airbags actually work together. In 1951, a German engineer, Walter Linderer, patented the concept of airbag. Today, about 20% of fatalities are reduced due to airbags.

Seat Belt

Ever since the creation of seat belts, it has always been the number one feature in terms of car safety. About 50% of fatalities are significantly reduced because of people wearing seat belts. Several studies have proven that every seven seconds, a seat belt saves the life of one person.

People are aware of the importance of wearing a seatbelt. The proof is the results from several studies that discovered 93% of drivers and passengers have a habit of wearing a seatbelt. Now, the laws require you to wear a seatbelt, otherwise, you will be facing a fine. When it comes to car safety, it has gone a long way, from way back in the nineteenth century to the high technology models of the present times.
